The complex commercial structure of the railway is constantly evolving; financial arrangements for infrastructure projects must keep pace with the changes. Finance and funding providers for projects demand certainty of cost, security of income, suitable economic or financial returns, and a full and proper understanding and allocation of risk.

Our core areas of expertise

  • Financial business cases – we work with you to produce or review and reshape the financial business case to deliver the required outcomes, demonstrating VfM within affordability criteria.
  • Create investment cases – financial modelling to provide the funding case, demonstrating the robustness of an investment.
  • Financial entity structuring – the need for and use of a Special Purpose Vehicle, joint ventures, and partnering by agreement.
  • Transaction process management – initiation through to due diligence, aspiration to asset completion and lifecycle management, security of income stream to certainty of costs, funding availability testing through to signing final agreements.
  • Commitment requirements – sourcing funding providers, securing appropriate third party guarantees, project finance marketing, negotiating terms.
  • Risk management – risk and responsibility allocation, understanding and testing delivery risk, interface risk, structure risk and ultimately asset performance risk.
